Leo Van Broeck (Bureau Bogdan & Van Broeck, ex Vlaamse Bouwmeester)
The building sector has the responsibility, the skills, and the position to operate in the vanguard of a fundamental transition process towards a more sustainable and a lot smaller land use by mankind. The collapse of the global ecosystem involves more than the problem of emissions and climate change: global solidarity, reducing birth rate in poor countries, a new economical and agricultural system, a post growth model, and the rewilding of half of the planet will all together be necessary vectors to reach a future that is sustainable on long term for all life forms.
Leo Van Broeck studeerde in 1981 af als ingenieur architect aan de KU Leuven. Op 1 september 2016 nam architect Leo Van Broeck de functie van Vlaamse Bouwmeester op. Leo Van Broeck is burgerlijk ingenieur-architect en medeoprichter van het Brusselse architectenbureau Bogdan & Van Broeck. Hij is er sinds 1995 actief als praktijkassistent en sinds 2006 als professor architectonisch en stedenbouwkundig ontwerpen. Hij is ook als gastdocent betrokken bij verschillende architecturale programma’s en publieke organisaties. Daarnaast was Van Broeck van 2013 tot 2016 voorzitter van de Koninklijke Federatie van de Architectenverenigingen van België (FAB).
